Cocktail of the Week- Harry Potter Edition

Butterbeer

500ml ale
Yolks from 2 medium eggs, whisked
60g sugar
Dash of nutmeg
15g unsalted butter

Pour the ale into a pan over medium heat. Before the beer boils, take off the heat and add the egg yolks, sugar and nutmeg.  Return the pot to low heat (to stop the eggs from scrambling), and stir for 2 minutes. Whisk in the butter.

Movies from the internets

We get eight DVDs per month from Quickflix.  I manage our queue of (generally speaking) around fifty films.  Normally when say number 3 and number 15 disappear from the list, I can guess what films are coming before the site updates (which takes a few hours) because I’m the one who chose to put them in the queue in the first place.  Today we’re getting a film that I’ve never even heard of before.  I have no idea when I put it in the queue or why, but I have no recollection of doing so.  None.  Whatsoever.

Seems a bit too soon for old age, doesn’t it?

Wrong In So Many Ways

Through no fault of my own I’ve had John Denver’s classic “Take Me Home, Country Roads” stuck in my head.  Versions of it featured heavily in a Studio Ghibli film we watched over the weekend, and on Monday my ipod decided to play the original.  What’s particularly distracting about having this particular masterpiece going round and round is that despite how many many times I’ve heard this song (it used to be a favourite of a former flatmate) I still get it wrong.  I ALWAYS sing the title lyrics the wrong way round!

Not a big deal, but I just can’t seem to shake it.  Of course, I’m not the only person with such steadfast lyrical errors.  Another flatmate used to insist that Dire Straits were singing about “Money for nothing and CHEQUES for free“.  And someone we know very well (*cough* Amanda’s mum *cough*) will swear blind that in Billie Jean, Micheal Jackson is particularly insistent that “the CHAD is not my son“.

Of course they aren’t the only ones nor are they themost ridiculous.  Kiss This Guy is a great collection of misheard lyrics – ranging from the easily mistakeable to the completely ridiculous.  It makes you realise that “The Chad” is not nearly as far from the truth as “the cheetahs mugged my son”!

Starlight Cinema

Is there anything better than watching a movie barefoot under the stars- skyscrapers in the distance with the occasional bat flying overhead?

An Impromptu Picnic

Tonight we’re off to one of our local outdoor cinemas to enjoy In Bruges under the stars.  Luckily I already had a cold spaghetti and asparagus salad on the menu for tonight, so I’ve made it in advance and packed it up along with some ickle paradise pears, bread, coburn cheese, nectarines and apricots.  Yay for summertime!  :D
